Film TO DVD TRANSFER 8mm Movies The ideal way to archive personal home movies. |
|
Studio Rate—$60 per hour Additional DVDs—$15 each Basically, it’s a four-step process to get Dad’s old home movies onto a DVD. First, the film is transferred to a mini-DV tape through an optical diplexer. Then, it is captured to the hard disc in the computer followed by some light editing and titling. Step three writes the resulting timeline out to a file for the DVD authoring software. Then, the DVD itself is titled, buttons and chapter points are added and the burn process is begun. Finally, the label is printed directly on the DVD and it is coated for water and UV protection. As an example, a spliced 7-inch 8mm reel (about 30 minutes of film) takes between 4 and 5 hours from start to finish. Because of the additional handling, smaller reels for assembly on a single DVD will take longer. Additional titles on the disc will also lengthen the work time as will a music or background track. Between 3 and 4 hours of material can be placed on the disc at better-than-VHS quality. Obviously, that’s better than the source material itself. |
